Dr. Karen Smith DNP

Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Psychiatry
I am Board Certified as both a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner.  My expertise extends across the full continuum of ages and mental health problems owing to decades of experience working with families in primary care, children and adults in private psychiatric practice,  and with adults in inpatient mental health crisis units.
I am passionate about my work in helping people feel normal and functional again. I’ve seen that with insight, forgiveness, acceptance and hope for the future, things can change.

The Normal Me Philosophy

I believe that there are normal predictable responses to physical, social and emotional stressors throughout our life, beginning at the time of conception throughout our aging process.

Gaining insight of the impact of stressors guides us to the changes we need to make to feel normal again.

We are all beautifully and wonderfully made, with plans for our lives that can be realized when we move forward!

Testimonials

I've been going to therapy for years.

Dr. Karen connected more dots in my life story in one session than the rest of my therapists put together.

My whole life makes sense now!

I feel normal. Finally.

I've watched patients walk into her room, heavy laden and sullen... then re-emerge after a session with Dr. Karen visibly lighter. You can actually see their burdens have been lifted!
